A big fear of students attending "school" online. Parents pushing up their children to attend online classes, where they were the ones who use to tell us to get away from those addicting screens. No matter, he is 3 or 16 year old, both have equal tantrums, screaming, running, etc. from those screens.
Even toddlers want to get out of their homes, teenagers are dying to have private space with their friends, and parents are trying to push children to have online classes so they can get some downtime.
And if I talked about a few months back adults (parents) were the ones who were tensed about the use of technology teens have, moreover, they always ended up saying children are "addicted" to their mobile phones, laptop, and the internet.
And a twist in the situation is right in front of us.
When a child starts using mobile, the tone of the parents was different as we revive our old times. I believe everyone goes through the same. Listening to our moms saying "There is a world outside your phone too" right? The majority is YES.
But from myself, a teen and a short survey of my friends - teens are not addicted to their phones, social media or so but actually, they are addicted to their friends.
Now it's merely a couple of months into screen-based schooling and we are witnessing a lot of global experiments that we never expected. But what? The majority of us have learned to live our whole life online. COVID-19 has taught us how important is virtual human interaction is. I swear if this will go long, all of us will end up hating our screens.
Before this pandemic situation, children use to have their private space, going to school, playing sports, participating in other activities, and being present physically with many humans there. Screens have broken those social spaces. Screens have made privacy from parents too. Parents end up hating when their children were physically present but not mentally having eyes on their phones.
Now everything is getting done through screens. Whether it is school, friends, activities, even the gym. Even religious gathering is done through screens. TikTok is big fun nowadays. Teens are frustrated and wanted to throw their screens on the wall. They want to rush out of their homes. And earlier, the children were happy to be alone at home when their parents use to beg them to come and attend the social gathering.
Teens are finding every possible option to connect with their friends and remove away their boredom. They are going online not because of technology, but to have connections with their friends given the way their life has been structured.
Now, after this situation, adults will surely say teens are "addicted' to sociality not to the technology.
