3 Reason Why Taking Break From Social Media Is Mandatory

scholarayu - 3 reasons why taking breaks from social media is mandatory

My relationship with social media has been a wild ride. Before coronavirus came into existence, I was doing well with the disciplined regimen of compulsory time off from the mechanism of Twitter and Instagram.

What feels good is, we want more of it. This is a basic common sense, and there is nothing we can do. After realizing endless robotic engagement that has done more damage than we ever realized.

One of my resolutions for 2020 was to drastically reduce time spent with meaningless interactions that are designed to heighten emotions to viral dramas, that we will end into a disaster. Even as a bonafide "nobody" with a meagre number of followers, I have experienced high and low interactions as a disciple of the ongoing experiment.

It's just fascinating to watch how we shamelessly have covered the gross superficiality of engagements that swallows authenticity and replaces it with misinformation with no truth.

The activation of COVID-19 is the reason why I have been consuming a heavy amount of content at a very fast rate. The risk we take after spending long hours scrolling to refresh timelines comes in the form of troubling immunity to the stuff that should elicit feelings that actually destroys our basic humanness.

Let's see why should we limit the amount or take a short break from social media.

1.  FOCUS
Often, whenever we check out on social media platforms, we are bombarded by other's accomplishments. Whether its someone uploading pictures of their convocation ceremony or tweeting their new car or anything but social media causes us to compare ourselves from others. It's not at all surprising that individuals who spend their major time on social media feel of anxiety and low self-esteem.

Further adding to it, we have been connected on social media to those people who we will not even consider as a friend- I know the majority of my Facebook friends are my either old classmates or my relatives with whom I have hardly talked.

The point is we should not waste time looking at other achievements instead we should focus on pursuing our own personal goals.

2.  DISTORTED VERSION OF REALITY
The majority of what we see on social media doesn't give us positive thoughts or happy moments. None of us post the pictures of low life or struggles we face instead we all post happy moments, any achievement we had or something related will upliftment. Because of which we feel more conscious of our own flaws.

Social media is a trap and whosoever falls into it tries to make their life more glamorous than they really are. I have seen people who are depressed, unsatisfied, unhappy in their life and uploading those beauty filtered pictures on Instagram.

What we see on social media doesn't truly depict their life, it's just moments of a specific time chosen by them.

We will not get anything after projecting our life on social media that just hardly exists instead we should live in reality, not in a blur.

3.  DISTRACTION
Often we get distracted from what is happening while using social media. We all have one friend in our group who keep on checking new feeds of Instagram and keep on updating wherever you will go. Many of us have the habit of sending a snap to continue with the snap streak either when we eat or visiting somewhere. This shows, how we are busy just updating all others instead of enjoying that moment. We generally fall into the routine of checking news feeds on social media whenever we get a chance due to which reality is less appreciated.

Attending a concert and continuously you are tweeting about the concert and the artist. Isn't it a distraction from the performance? You are not enjoying your moment instead you are helping others to enjoy that moment.

Or, you go for a road trip to any hill station and every couple of minutes you are stopping to take a selfie. Isn't you are missing natural beauty?

I realized these examples are exaggerated, but the core is social media, which always distracts us from the beauty of the moment.

"Everything is good when used in the limit, over-limit is always harmful."

Social media can do tons of good as well as can destroy one's life or career. Social media just disturbs our mental health.

So spend your time wisely.
When you will take one break you will love to have another one.

  6. I agree that we all need to take breaks from social media. I have found that when I'm trying to work, social media can be rather distracting and make me lose my focus. So. I have started to avoid them when I really need to get things done :)
