Time, the most infinite
Inherently knowledge gets a transfer. Learning is expensive and that's why we have students loan. You are not the host of a birthday party where you have to thank everyone around you. But there is a time when giving a bit to receive back a bit. There are many instances where you can invest a bit and you will get more return on investment. Let's see a few of them.
IF IT HELPS TO GROW YOUR NETWORK
As an introvert, though I'm an extrovert but I can't go to a stranger and start talking. Yes I will do that when needed but I'm more comfortable and confident behind the mobile screen. I feel less comfortable meeting someone one-on-one, all crowded and rarely discussing our brain minds instead of just talking around and enjoying.
IF IT HELPS YOU TO TEACH SOMEONE SOMETHING
There are many incidents in my life where I was able to teach someone something. This enhances my learning and boosts my confidence. Also, sometimes I can relate to people and having the opportunity to learn in different ways. It helps me in recalling those situations when I come across it and able to solve it more easily and in the best way.
MENTORING SOMEONE
When someone older, wiser, more accomplished takes someone under their wings, he grows beautifully. You can be a mentor in any way - like having short interactions, motivational talks, guiding someone, and so on.
The mentor-mentee relationship is not a long term. While it's good to have ongoing consistency with someone who knows ins and outs of you, it can be more beneficial to have more hands-off to rely on and more dynamic mentoring. And something that can put wind in your sails is that someone is constantly looking at you, aspiring you for what you have already accomplished, being aspired from you. So this keeps you motivated also.
BANK OF KARMA
If you want to deposit in the bank of karma then you are free to do. If you are willing to do something out of your goodness of heart with no expectations of coming back to your way, go ahead. It's nice to be a generous person.
There is a subjective measurement of values in all the above examples. In the end its totally up to you for what you are determined and the worth of it. If you recognize your time and energy to be limited there's nothing wrong in putting boundaries around you to protect yourself. Don't give more out of you then you are capable of giving.
I am more focused on my self-care habits and remind me that there is nothing wrong with prioritizing your needs. After all, you can't pour from an empty cup.
If you have a plan and are serious about how you distribute your time, you may find that a little giving can get you back in big ways in unexpected ways.
